Freight Rate Factors

Rating freight is both art and science put together. Numerous factors affect the final rate that is charged to move your freight. Here are some factors that may decrease or increase your freight rate:
  • What are the dimensions of the load (Length, Width, Height)?
  • Does the load require delivery or time-sensitive pickup?
  • What is the weight of your load?
  • Does your load contain hazardous materials?
  • Is the load over-dimensional, requiring special permit, pilot cars or routing of any kind?
  • What is the value of the freight to be moved?
  • Does your order require any special equipment such as 9-axle low beds or tridem step-decks?
  • Are there any ferry charges or toll roads involved in the movement of the load?
  • Is there waiting time in excess of two hours loading or unloading?
  • Is the load originating from or delivering to a point that includes off road miles?
  • Does the freight need to be tarped?
